Guess the Verse — Free Online Bible Game
Read a verse and guess which reference it comes from. A fun challenge for Scripture lovers.
Free to play, no sign-up required — and free to embed on your own website.
Guess the Verse turns Scripture recall inside out. Instead of being given a reference and asked to remember the words, you are given the words and asked for the reference — which is the harder direction, and the one that actually matters when a verse comes to mind and you want to look it up or share it.
How to play Guess the Verse
- A short King James Version verse appears on screen, drawn from the 386 passages in the site's King James Version collection that are short enough to fit on a card.
- Four references are offered. One is where the verse is really from; the other three are genuine references pulled from elsewhere in the collection, so guessing by shape does not help.
- Pick one. The board tells you immediately whether you were right.
- Ten verses make a round, and you get a score out of ten at the end.
What this game teaches
You build the link between a verse's wording and its address in Scripture. That is the skill behind being able to say "that is Philippians 4" rather than "it's somewhere in Paul", and it comes only from repetition against real text rather than from reading about it.
Who Guess the Verse is for
Adults and teens who already know a fair amount of Scripture and want to sharpen the recall, small groups looking for a five-minute opener, and anyone working on memorisation who wants to check what has actually stuck.
